HP Applauds Introduction of Immigration Bill by Rep. Shadegg

Statement by David Isaacs, HP Director of Government Affairs

For Immediate Release: April 23, 2007

WASHINGTON, D.C., – “HP applauds Congressman John Shadegg (R-AZ) for introducing legislation that helps American technology companies remain competitive and innovative by employing educated foreign professionals. This will ensure American companies like HP can continue to remain innovative in today’s global marketplace.

“Congressman Shadegg’s introduction of this bill, H.R. 1930, in the House raises awareness of the issues of innovation, leadership and competitiveness. In today’s increasingly competitive global marketplace, it is vitally important for American companies to maintain their leadership. Congressman Shadegg’s bill is similar to a bill by Senator Cornyn (R-TX), and HP is committed to partnering with both the House and the Senate on this most important issue.

“HP directs many different initiatives to promote the education of American students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. However, until there are enough American students graduating in those fields to meet the demands for innovation in the 21st century, U.S. companies should not be forced to fall behind their global competitors.

“So many of the best students in the world—regardless of where they are from—are graduates of U.S. universities. American companies should be able to hire them. Keeping America competitive needs to be a top priority and HP strongly supports both Congressman Shadegg and Senator Cornyn, along with all Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle working on ways to make this a reality.”
