HP Welcomes Bipartisan Patent Reform Bill
Statement by Mike Holston, HP General Counsel
For Immediate Release: April 18, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 18, 2007 –“HP welcomes the patent reform bill introduced in the House and the Senate today. Patent reform is aligned with HP’s own public policy priorities and the broader congressional innovation agenda.
“We appreciate this strong first step today, and are eager for Congress to take prompt action to reform the patent system. There is an excellent opportunity to address this important issue this year. Addressing disruptions to innovation due to speculative litigation and improving patent quality are top priorities.
“Quite simply, we need changes in the patent system because the current system hinders companies' ability to adequately protect their investment in innovation. This is important for HP, but also important for the country. America needs its businesses to continue to lead in order to create economic growth.
“HP thanks Chairman Patrick Leahy, Senator Orrin Hatch, Chairman Howard Berman, and Congressman Lamar Smith for the outstanding leadership they have demonstrated on patent reform by introducing this bill. We look forward to continuing to work with the Congress as they consider this important measure.”
