HP Applauds SKIL Bill by Senator Cornyn
Statement by David Isaacs, HP Director of Government Affairs
For Immediate Release: April 17, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 17, 2007 – “HP applauds Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) for introducing legislation to attract and retain highly skilled workers. This legislation is critical to maintaining America's competitiveness and ensuring that American companies like HP can continue to remain innovative in today’s global marketplace.
“Senator Cornyn’s reintroduction of the SKIL Bill recognizes that, with countries such as India and China becoming increasingly competitive in today’s economy, it is crucial that American companies are able to maintain their leadership in innovation.
“HP is committed to partnering with the U.S. government to help educate American students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. However, until there are enough American students graduating in those fields to meet the demands for innovation in the 21st century, U.S. companies should not be forced to fall behind their global competitors.
“American companies should be able to hire the best talent in the world—especially graduates of U.S. universities. Those graduates who are educated at American universities should be able to apply their advanced degrees at American companies, benefiting the American public. Keeping America competitive needs to be a top priority and HP strongly supports Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle working on ways to make this a reality.”
