	Overview
	Accessibility information on HP products and services is readily available by selecting the "check product accessibility" link. The link takes you to HP's accessibility database, which is designed to be an easy way for U.S. federal agencies to document how HP products meet their accessibility requirements. Although designed with this specific use in mind, the database is also very useful to anyone who has a need for a product with accessibility features.

	Section 508 requires U. S. federal agencies to research accessibility features before purchasing technology products. VPATs are templates used as tools to do the necessary research. Detailed accessibility information about HP products is easily available in our online database, which is available to government purchasers and the public.

Section 508

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 USC 794d), as amended by P.L. No. 106-246 (July 13, 2000), is implemented by Electronic and Information Accessibility Standards set forth in regulations of the US Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (36 CFR Part 1194). Products used by U.S. federal agencies are required to be accessible by people with disabilities. In addition, federal agencies are required to research technology products before purchase to ensure that they are accessible to people with disabilities.

The U.S. Access Board is now updating the standards covered by section 508. This effort will address new technologies and other areas where the standards need to be revisited.

VPATs

Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) are used to do the research necessary to comply with the requirements of Section 508. These Internet based tools help government agencies determine if technology products they are considering purchasing meet their accessibility requirements.
