What are the mandatory prerequisites for these courses and exams? None ITIL v2 Foundation Certification ITIL v2 Foundation Certification
Can I skip the training if I have enough experience? Unless otherwise specified as "optional", the above courses are required, as specified by APMG, in order to be able to take the exam.
What is the "bridging" course to advance from this certification to the corresponding ITIL v3 certification? Take HE785S ITIL v3 Foundation Bridge; success on the exam yields 0.5 ITIL Expert credits and ITIL v3 Foundation certification HP exclusively provides Practitioner Bridge courses to cover the differences between ITIL v2 Practitioner courses and their corresponding ITIL v3 Capability courses.

How many v3 ITIL Expert credits do I receive for this certification? 1.5 ITIL Expert credits 3.5 ITIL Expert credits per Practitioner course noted above; note also that earlier (and now retired) "single" Practitioner courses are worth 2 ITIL Expert credits each - go here for more details The ITIL v2 (and v1) Service Manager certification is worth 17 ITIL Expert credits. Note that holders of this certification need only take HF436S ITIL v3 Managers Bridge and pass the corresponding exam to achieve ITIL Expert certification
What is format of this exam, and what is required for certification? To achieve this certification, you must (a) attend an accredited training course (see above) and (b) pass the exam:
  • 40-question multiple choice
  • 60 minutes to complete
  • passing score is 65% or greater (26 or more correct answers)
To achieve this certification, you must (a) attend an accredited training course, (b) successfully complete three in-course assignments, and (c) pass the exam:
  • 40-question multiple choice
  • 120 minutes to complete
  • passing score is 65% or greater (26 or more correct answers)
To achieve this certification, you must (a) attend accredited training courses for both Service Support and Service Delivery (see above) and (b) pass both parts of the exam.

This certification is based on two 3-hour exams, one on Service Support (U3269S) and one on Service Delivery (U3270S). Each exam consists of five essay questions and requires knowledge and analysis of a case study.

Is the exam open-book? No. All ITIL exams are closed-book and supervised.
Which Exam Institute delivers this exam for HP Education? For ITIL Foundation open enrollment sessions (v2 and v3), our exam partner is Loyalist Certification Services (EXIN's exam). For ITIL Foundation dedicated onsite sessions, our partner is CSME (ISEB's exam). For ITIL Foundation open enrollment sessions (v2 and v3), our exam partner is Loyalist Certification Services (EXIN's exam). For ITIL Foundation dedicated onsite sessions, our partner is CSME (ISEB's exam). Loyalist Certification Services (EXIN's exam) is our partner for all ITIL Service Manager sessions.

Am I allotted extra time if the exam is not in my native language? Yes. Click here for more details.
How many times can I retake the exam? There is no limit. However, bear in mind that course content may change, and that you may also need to pay for second and subsequent exam attempts. There are numerous options for retaking exams - please click here for details on how to schedule a retake.

*There are four ITIL Practitioner certifications:

To achieve this certification, you must (a) attend an accredited training course (see above) and (b) pass the exam:

  • 40-question multiple choice
  • 60 minutes to complete
  • passing score is 65% or greater (26 or more correct answers)
To achieve an Intermediate certification in either the Capability stream or the Life Cycle stream, you must (a) attend an accredited training course and (c) pass the exam:
  • eight multiple-choice, scenario-based, gradient-scored questions
  • 90 minutes to complete
  • passing score = 70% (28 or more points) and a minimum of four completely correct answers
To achieve this certification, you must (a) attend an accredited training courses and (b) pass the exam:
  • 20 scenario-based, complex multiple-choice questions
  • 90 minutes to complete
  • passing score = 80% (16 or more correct answers)
