We are pleased you are considering ITIL Manager courses from HP Education. The ITIL Manager's Certificate in IT Service Management Program is an intense training program, perhaps unlike any you've experienced before. In order to be successful with this program, it is important that you are prepared, in terms of resources, time, and management commitment to this program.
Your journey towards IT Masters Certification includes the following courses from HP Education:
  • U8687S 5 days - Service Support - ITIL Manager in ITSM
  • HH026S 2 days - Exam Prep - Studying/Prep Tips and Techniques (as soon as possible after taking your first ITIL Manager course)
  • U8688S 5 days - Service Delivery - ITIL Manager in ITSM
  • H8990S 2 days - Exam Prep - Case Study Analysis (approximately two weeks prior to your exam)
  • U3269S 3 hours - ITIL Service Support Exam
  • U3270S 3 hours - ITIL Service Delivery Exam
The prerequisites and recommendations that follow are grouped into four main areas:

1. What to do before attending Service Delivery and Service Support training
2. What to expect during the Service Delivery and Service Support class
3. Recommendations for after the training class and prior to the exam
4. Taking the ITIL Managers Certification Exams

1. What to do before attending ITIL Service Delivery and ITIL Service Support training

  • Make sure you have earned your ITIL Foundation Certification. You must be able to provide HP with your ITIL Foundations Certificate prior to the first day of your training class.
  • Get access to current ITIL reference books (or CD's) and familiarize yourself with them prior to class. Be sure to review and know the information from ITIL Foundations very well. Information may be found in your ITIL Foundations training material and the itSMF IT Service Management Pocket Guide.
  • HP Education strongly recommends that students bring to class with them copies of the following publications, which are available from a number of sources, including http://www.ITSMf.com, http://www.softwaremanagement.com/Publications/infrastructure.html, http://www.amazon.com, and http://www.balogh.com:
    • ITIL Service Support (ISBN # 0113300158)
    • ITIL Service Delivery (ISBN # 0113300174)
    • itSMF IT Service Management Pocket Guide (ISBN # 0-9254706-40)

2. What to expect during the ITIL Service Support or Service Delivery Class

  • These courses are very content full and require your full commitment. Be sure to clear you calendar and commit yourself to each day of this training. Brief absences from the classroom could negatively impact your success on your ITIL Managers Certification exams.
  • The course will include ITIL theory and group activities and exercises. It will be helpful but not mandatory if you bring a laptop with you to assist in some of these lab exercises.
  • The Service Support and Service Delivery courses both involve an average of 2-3 hours of "homework" per night outside of normal class time. Plan on a minimum of 2 hours each evening.
  • Be prepared to actively participate, have fun, and learn!

3. Recommendations after the training and prior to sitting the exam

  • Create a plan that will allow you to dedicate the required time to study the ITIL reference books thoroughly. You must know the depth and breadth of ITIL best practices for every process and function. (The study time required depends heavily on competence and experience. ISEB suggests an average of 80 hours of class time and 240 hours of study and preparation.)
  • Your instructor can provide you with some critical success factors and more recommendations on how to proceed with your study.
  • Do not wait until the 2-day case study analysis workshop to start your ITIL study. Fortify your study and preparation activities by:
    • As soon as possible after taking your first ITIL Manager course (Service Support or Service Delivery), take the course HH026S ITIL Managers Exam: Tips and Techniques for Planning, Studying for, and Taking the Exam, a 2-day live virtual course focusing on the the ITIL content, the nature of the exam, and building a study plan that you can fit into your hectic schedule; this course is designed to be taken as early as possible after training so that your study activities and focus on the exam will on track early in your ITIL Manager journey
    • Study the ITIL books thoroughly
    • Approximately 2 weeks before your exam, take the course H8990S ITIL Managers Exam Prep: Case Study Analysis, which focuses on the case study that is the basis for a significant part of your exam .
  • After attending the exam preparation workshop, you will want to reserve time to study and to analyze the case study that your exam will be based on.

4. Taking the ITIL Managers Certification Exam

  • Register in advance for both the Service Delivery and the Service Support Exam:
    • U3269S 3 hours - ITIL Service Support Exam
    • U3270S 3 hours - ITIL Service Delivery Exam
  • Take the two exams. Each one is a 3-hour written exam. You must pass both exams to obtain the certification.
  • Once you have completed the exams, your results will be scored according to an exam grading schedule set by the exam institute. Your exam results will be mailed directly to you usually within 8 weeks of your exam date.
Best of luck on your journey!
