Course overview

This 4 hour course provides service personnel with information about servicing and supporting the HP iPAQ Pocket PC (all series to date) handhelds. The course describes the architecture, functionality, and system software. The course also provides detailed information on service considerations, such as option installation and troubleshooting.


Prerequisites

Participants must have completed Getting started with HP iPAQ (U8821AAE). An iPAQ Pocket PC with associated Companion CD is required as well as a PC with ActiveSync (version 3.5 or greater).


Audience

This course is designed for the novice or the experienced iPAQ Pocket PC user. The course is designed so that by the end of the course even the first time user will be able to fully utilize the Pocket PC. The experienced iPAQ Pocket PC user will gain a new understanding of the functions and features associated with the iPAQ Pocket PC.

Course outline

Module 1
Introduction, overview and technical description of the HP iPAQ Pocket PC
(30 minutes)

  • Describe the features and specifications available for the devices.
  • Identify the ports and components on the device.
  • Describe the service support and warranty for the device.
  • Identify the CPU and memory components.
  • Describe the features of the transflective display.
  • Identify storage options.
  • Describe the wireless communications options.
  • Understand the power subsystem.

Module 2
Installing hardware, software and using ActiveSync
(60 minutes)

  • Identify characteristics of compatible accessories.
  • Charge the device.
  • Install an expansion pack (3xxx and 5xxx series only).
  • Connect the device to external communication accessories.
  • Identify icons on the Start menu.
  • Manipulate personal settings.
  • Execute diagnostics.
  • Install ActiveSync on the desktop.
  • Synchronize the iPAQ Pocket PC with a desktop PC.
  • Configure ActiveSync.
