Course overview

Most programmers today are working in and developing applications for a networked environment. Programmers need to be familiar with the variety of interfaces and frameworks for writing network applications. UNIX network programming includes the XTI and TLI interfaces, STREAMS, sockets, and remote procedure call libraries. Programmers also need to know the basic steps and underlying mechanisms of writing programs using the client-server model.


Prerequisites

To get the most from this course, students should be able to:

  • Use an editor on a UNIX system
  • Write and debug C language programs
  • Use system calls and library routines

This course is intended for experienced C programmers who wish to write application programs in a UNIX network environment.
