Course overview
This lecture/lab course (along with system internals I) provides an in-depth examination of the HP Tru64 UNIX v5.1a operating system's internal features and their operation. The source code is examined and kernel tools are used to look at some possible problem areas. This course describes the data structures, their relationships and the major algorithms used to manage virtual memory, file systems (UFS, NFS, and AdvFS), kernel networking components and I/O framework and device drivers.
Prerequisites
Students should have a minimum of one year programming experience (preferably C), as well as a basic architecture course such as Alpha architecture. Students should also have a familiarity with one or more UNIX editors, UNIX commands and utilities, and a UNIX source code license. HP Tru64 UNIX v5.1 system internals I U3707S.
Audience
Systems programmers, support personnel and others who want to understand the implementation of the HP Tru64 UNIX operating system. Students must demonstrate that they have a UNIX source code license.
