Course overview

This course provides prepress professionals with the knowledge and skills to build and load jobs the HP SmartStream Labels and Packaging Print Server, powered by EskoArtwork. The course will focus on using HP SmartStream Labels and Packaging Prepress Tools powered by EskoArtwork to develop a workflow to effectively submit files to the press. Topics covered will relate to common Prepress needs of the Industrial market place; Spot colors, Overprints, Finishing marks, Step & Repeat and Barcode job options. During the second half of the class the focus will shift to the HP SmartStream Labels and Packaging Color Kit powered by EskoArtwork to explore the fundamentals behind the Color Management option. This will include profiling the press, gaining an understanding of the printable gamut of the press, improving Pantone or Custom color Simulations to obtain the closest match to the Original color, and utilizing Color Strategies to achieve the desired Color Output for the printed label. Finally, the Variable Data tools will be introduced with a focus on Sequential numbering and variable barcode file submittal.

The course provides 40 percent lecture and 60 percent hands-on.

Prerequisites

• Minimum of 1 year digital prepress experience Macintosh or PC
• If applicable a working knowledge of variable data
• If applicable a working knowledge of color theory, color profiling and color measurement and calibration tools
