Course overview

This 4-day course combines the best of the infrastructure management portfolio-including HP Systems Insight Manager, Insight Control and Virtual Server Environment-into one integrated offering for HP BladeSystem, ProLiant and Integrity servers. This course covers the installation and configuration of HP Insight Dynamics – VSE, using the Virtualization manager to view systems/workloads, using Capacity Advisor to perform systems capacity planning and VM consolidations, using Logical Server Management to provide advanced server management using the logical servers model and troubleshooting tasks

Prerequisites

HP recommends that students have attained the following credentials or levels of experience before taking this course:

  • An understanding of Windows system administration
  • A general understanding of virtualization technologies or take the self-paced course below:
  • Familiarity with general networking concepts and terminology
  • Familiarity with hp BladeSystem hardware or take below course:
    • HE646S - 3day HP BladeSystem Admin
  • Familiarity with hp Virtual Connect technology or take below course:
    • HF837S - 2 day HP Virtual Connect
  • Configuring and using HP Systems Insight Manager or take below course:
    • HE643S - 2 day HP Insight Foundation

Audience

  • System Administrators
  • System Designers and Operators
  • Technical Support Personnel
  • Technical Consultants
  • HP BladeSystem Matrix administrators-using ID-VSE (Insight Dynamics-VSE) tools

Ways to save

Course objectives

  • Provide an overview description of the VSE components
  • Install and configure the VSE software on a ProLiant central management server (CMS)
  • Use the Virtualization Manager to manage system and workload status
  • Use Logical Server management tools to create and use logical servers
  • Use Capacity Advisor to evaluate capacity requirements and consolidation opportunities
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of VSE

Benefits to you

  • Insight Dynamics - VSE enables you to proactively deal with potential issues (such as performance, power and space constraints) before they become problems that impact your business
  • Manage system resource/power usage to avoid system overloads and outages. Analyze workload usage for shifting non-essential workloads to off-peak hours
  • Use the logical server capability of Insight Dynamics - VSE, and the fast provisioning it enables, to make recoveries and ward off problems
  • The logical server is essentially a server profile that is easily created and freely moved across physical and virtual machines. By detaching the logical identity from the physical resource, you can create or move logical servers on any suitable virtual or physical machine - on demand
  • Using the five-star rating system, you can see in real time the best fit for your logical server, then drag and drop it in the new location
  • Create logical server templates for your business applications with specific configurations that can be stored and re-activated when needed in minutes
  • Quickly evaluate different scenarios for consolidating older and underutilized physical servers onto virtual machines. Plan for efficient CPU, memory, I/O bandwidth, and power consolidations
  • Extend the life of your data center by quickly identifying and consolidating inefficient systems onto fewer, more power-efficient servers
