March 24, 2005 - HP, the 5th Ward/HP i-community and TechCorps Texas Has been recognized by The Prince Complex for supporting the advancement of computer literacy in the 5th Ward community in Houston, Texas .

The 5th Ward/HP i-community is a public/private community partnership between HP and the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation (CRC). With the help of a $3 million multi-year cash, equipment and services investment by HP, the 5th Ward/HP i-community project seeks to accelerate social and economic development for the 5th Ward.

In 2003, The Prince Complex was designated as part of the i-community by the Fifth Ward CRC. This designation enabled The Prince Complex to establish a computer lab and to become a Technology Access Point (TAP) within the community.

The state-of-the-art computer technology center uses T-1 high speed internet and is used in the evening for after school academic enrichment and during the morning for senior computer literacy training. HP and its partners were formally recognized during the capital campaign drive for the design and construction of the new Prince Complex Multi-Purpose Center in the presence of dignitaries such as former Houston Mayor Lee P. Brown, former Houston Police Chief C.O. Bradford, Houston City Council member Carol Mims Galloway, and Isiah Carey, reporter, KRIV-TV FOX 26.

The Prince Complex is a non-profit youth organization that offers a viable alternative to the problems facing disadvantaged, inner-city youth. Since its creation in 1998, The Prince Complex has provided athletic, recreation and academic programs to serve over 1,000 inner-city youth. The Prince Complex began as a passionate vision of James Andre Prince, founder and CEO of Rap A Lot Records. With his own private resources, Mr. Prince established the Prince Complex as a community safe haven for youth in the Greater Fifth Ward Community.
