TIME Archive + HP : How HP helped TIME preserve and protect over 80 years of history

  History in a nutshell

Since its inaugural issue in 1923, TIME Magazine has been an important source of information for the seminal events, influential people and important trends of society. When looked at in its entirety, the magazine’s vast, in-depth content serves as an historic textbook of the past 80 years.

  The importance of preservation

Recognizing its importance as an historic reference tool, TIME wanted to make all of its content accessible to everyone in the world. To do so, it asked HP to help create the TIME Archive, an easy-to-use online database featuring every article from every issue of TIME ever produced.

  Let the scanning begin

HP participated in the process of bringing the TIME Archive to life. HP Services worked with TIME technologists, using a novel technology developed by HP Labs, to design, create and implement the site, which included scanning and digitizing every single page. TIME also used HP StorageWorks systems and HP ProLiant servers for the project, ensuring security, efficiency and reliability.

World history. Now available to all

The Archive, which launched in the fall of 2004, is already establishing itself as a leading online source for historical information. Everyone from students to journalists to TIME subscribers are benefiting from the site’s powerful search engine and vast archival content. And with HP having been involved in the site’s growth and development, it’s a sure bet world history will be preserved safely, into the future and beyond.
