Certification versions will give you options and more flexibility in your education and certification planning. Versions extend the recognized life of a certification, even if the technology has progressed and a given certification can no longer be earned by a new candidate. A new certification version will be triggered by a significant change in skills and/or technology. We recommend a timely upgrade to the latest version which allows you to save time and money by completing a certification upgrade path.
Certification versions can be easily identified by a new naming convention. All new (and some existing) certifications will include either a "year designator" or a "version designator," ensuring that the latest available certifications are easily recognizable:
Year designator
ASE - HP StorageWorks [2008]
Version designator
CSE - HP-UX 11i v3
While you as an HP Certified Professional are not obliged to upgrade to the latest version of a certification, your employer may require you to do so in order to remain authorized under HP Preferred Partner Program requirements.
