Credential status

The following terminology refers to the credential itself, not to you, the individual. When you search for credentials, only the "active" and "transitional" credentials will be available for you to select from and achieve. If a credential is "transitional", it will be noted next to the name of the credential on the "Credential requirements" page. If there is no status next to the name of the credential, consider that credential "active".

Active

Most up-to-date credential in a specific technology, may be obtained at any time

Transitional

Still recognized by the program but will no longer be attainable as of a specific date in the future. There may be a more up-to-date version of a credential considered to be "Active".

Inactive

Still recognized as part of the program, but no longer attainable. An "Inactive" credential is still valid toward benefits in the HP Certified Professional Program. You are strongly encouraged to upgrade to an "Active" credential if you hold a credential with this status.

Expiring

Still recognized in the HP Certified Professional Program but will soon no longer be recognized due to significant technology changes. You are encouraged to upgrade immediately to the suggested new credential.

Expired

This credential is no longer considered part of the HP Certified Professional Program because it has either been replaced by another credential, or the technology is so outdated that it can no longer be considered valid. If you hold an "Expired" credential and no other valid credentials, you will no longer receive the benefits of being an HP Certified Professional.

Credential versions

A new credential version is released when there is a significant change in a skill, product or technology. Credential version allows you to keep your existing credential while offering an upgrade path to a more current version.

Credential versions can be easily identified by the way the credentials are named. All new (and some existing) credentials will include either a "year designator" or a "version designator," ensuring that the latest available credentials are easily recognized:

  • Year designator ASE - HP BladeSystem Servers [2007]
  • Version designator CSE - HP OpenVMS v8

Credential upgrade paths

Credential Upgrade Paths are the paths between credential versions. As an HP Certified Professional, you choose "when" to upgrade to a newer credential version. You have the option to stay at your existing credential version, regardless of its status. However, don't delay too long, as the upgrade path to the newer version may no longer be available. In that case, you will need to achieve the newer credential by completing all the requirements without the benefit of an upgrade path.

We highly recommend that you keep your skills current by achieving one of the "active" credentials that is replacing yours. This is to your benefit. Any exams you have passed previously which counted for your current credential version (and are also a requirement for the newer credential version) would also count toward the newer version. When you complete the requirements, you will automatically be awarded the new credential.
