"Increasingly, SMB customers face the same storage and information management challenges as larger enterprises, yet they often lack the expertise or resources to effectively manage these challenges internally" Jason Reiher, category manager for systems and storage at Ingram Micro.

  What is it?

What does 'Storage Solution' really mean for a small or medium business? A working definition might be 'a simple, integrated and affordable way to access, share, save and protect valuable business information'

  Why does it matter?

With data doubling in size every year, companies are looking for new ways to manage growth and control costs. And in a Storage context those costs include hardware and software acquisition and deployment, as well as the people costs to manage the data growth, security, and regulatory compliance.

  What's HP's solution?

HP's Simply StorageWorks initiative offers a series of building blocks that help SMB customers visualize how HP products can work together to solve their end-to-end storage needs. In combination, the Simply File Services, Simply Consolidation and Simply Business Protection building blocks offer straightforward advice to help SMB customers choose a simple, affordable and worry-free solution that meets the specific needs of their business. You can explore these building blocks via http://www.hp.com/sbso/serverstorage/storage_solution.html

Let's look at just some of the key components of the Simply StorageWorks building blocks:

  • HP StorageWorks 400, 600 and 1200 All-in-One Storage Systems are designed for IT generalists with no storage expertise, with the intuitive All-in-One (AiO) Storage Manager (ASM) interface hiding complexity and enabling storage to be a turnkey resource. All-in-One Storage Systems provide shared application storage (iSCSI SAN), file serving (NAS) and data protection below the cost of separate products and without the need to change infrastructure, and Application-centric storage management simplifies operation and lowers costs. All-in-One Storage Systems include tools to easily migrate and manage data using best-practice settings, and provide comprehensive and integrated data protection to enable easy rollback and disaster recovery.
  • The HP StorageWorks SB40c Direct Attach Storage Blade provides cost effective and simple Storage Expansion for BladeSystem c-Class servers.
  • The HP StorageWorks AiO software provides File/Print Serving (Windows NAS), Shared Application Storage (iSCSI SAN), Integrated Data Protection (Snapshots, replication, Data Protector Express BU Software), and the All-in-One Storage Management Interface.
  • HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448c Tape Blade provides data protection via direct and network backup of data within the c-Class BladeSystem enclosure.
  • The new All-in-One SB600c Storage Blade helps customers create HP BladeSystem c-Class business solutions by consolidating file serving (NAS), shared application storage (iSCSI SAN), and data protection under a unified management umbrella to deliver outstanding value and utility. AiO SB600c = AiO software + BL460c server blade + SB40c storage blade. HP's BladeSystem solutions were the focus of last months eLearning Showcase.
  • A range of simplified Storage Services and HP Financing Services offerings to suit the needs of SMB customers.

Senior IT Executives attending the September 2007 Midsize Enterprise Summit (produced by Vision Events, a Gartner company) recently recognized the HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System with the Best Hardware Innovation award. The All-in-One also took out the highest score for Disk Storage in the Channel Products of the Year award, scoring significantly higher than IBM, NetApp and EMC.
