  What is it?

Blades are widely viewed as compact and efficient servers that primarily save space and power. However, HP BladeSystem goes beyond just Blade servers, by integrating server, storage, networking, and power management into a single solution that can be managed as a unified environment.

HP BladeSystem is suitable for any Linux or Windows application running on one, two, or four x-86 processors, or for HP-UX workloads—from custom applications to High Performance Computing (HPC).

The HP BladeSystem c-Class portfolio takes advantage of the best technologies across HP and brings them together to fundamentally improve how customers buy, manage and use their computing resources.

  Why does it matter?

A BladeSystem enables customers to:

  • Improve infrastructure manageability by keeping solutions secure, reliable, and consistent
  • Automate more tasks—such as application and patch updates—to save administrative time and expense
  • Improve utilization of server, storage, and network components and save space and power
  • Reduce the number of cables required and the time spent managing cables in the data center
  • Build a more flexible and cost-effective modular computing environment

In fact, the benefits of BladeSystem c-Class are compelling: reduce acquisition costs by up to 41%, datacenter facilities costs by up to 60%, and initial system set-up time savings by 96%. And to top it off, datacenters will be able to achieve a 200:1 server to administrator ratio.

  What's HP's solution?

The HP BladeSystem enclosure holds up to 16 half height or 8 full height server blades plus redundant network and storage switches, and includes a shared, high-speed backplane for wire-once connectivity of server blades to network, shared storage, and power. With hardware management integrated across the solution, one full enclosure can be managed as easily as one server.

HP ProLiant c-Class server blades share the same enterprise-class features and design standards as the market leading HP ProLiant servers, including hot-plug hard-drives, multiple I/O cards, multi-function network interconnects and Integrated Lights Out.

A broad range of Services are available for HP BladeSystem, including Installation & Startup Services, Hardware and Software Support Services, as well as the innovative BladeSystem Proactive Service that further simplifies management and maintenance of a BladeSystem environment.
