Launch of the Credential's Status under the Certification History page |
Many of you have been asking whether you need to do anything with your credential(s) to keep them updated and how you would know if you do need to do something? The America's HP Certified Professional program recently launched a new tool to help you identify what your credential(s) status is. By adding the credential status to your certification history view, you have one place to go to see your certification history and your credential status. In addition, if your credential status is "Inactive" or "Transitional" you may click on the link to display the upgrade path available.
To view the new credential status information, please go to the America's certification web portal at www.hp.com/go/certification/americas, log in to the HP Certified Professional Member's site and select "View my certification/exam history" link. The credential status column is to the left of the credential title.

Exam preparation guides take the anxiety out of taking certification exams |
As a member of the HP Certified Professional program, you are well aware that you had to take and pass at least one exam in order to earn your credential(s). The purpose of our certification exams is to test a person's knowledge and skills as they pertain to a specific credential topic. Each certification exam is carefully developed to ensure that the test items cover a broad range of practical job-specific knowledge.
A single certification exam might span the materials presented in several training courses, as well as knowledge that should have been developed through the candidate's hands-on experience. For this reason, it may be hard for a test taker to anticipate exactly what topics will be covered by the exam.
HP alleviates that anxiety by providing an exam preparation guide (EPG) for every certification exam we offer. The intent of an EPG is to set expectations about the content and the context of the exam and to help candidates prepare for the exam by recommending HP training courses and reference and study materials. In addition, an EPG provides generic sample items to show what an exam question looks like.
"Certification exams are labor intensive for HP to construct. We try to offer the best exams in the IT industry," says Karen Petrini, HP Exam Solutions Manager. "At the same time, we want people to be successful in passing our exams, so we provide the exam preparation guides to help people understand what they need to know before taking the exam."
Exam preparation guides are located on the web page where exam information resides. We highly recommend you use them; studies conducted by HP and Prometric show that a combination of course attendance and self-study maximizes the likelihood of passing the exam on the first attempt.

HP storage credentials are a path to attaining the SNIA Certified Storage Networking Expert credential |
The HP Certified Professional Program and the Storage Networking Industry Association have agreed that several HP storage credentials meet the requirements for pre-requisites for the SNIA Certified Storage Networking Expert (SCSN-E) credential. Specifically, the following HP credentials are among the approved vendor credentials on the SCSN-E path:
- Accredited Systems Engineer - HP StorageWorks
- Accredited Systems Engineer - HP StorageWorks [2005]
- Accredited Systems Engineer - HP StorageWorks Nearline Storage
Candidates who want to attain the SCSN-E credential from SNIA also need to pass the following exams offered by SNIA:
- SNIA Architect - Assessment, Planning and Design (S10-300)
- SNIA Storage Networking Management/Administration (S10-200)
- SNIA Storage Network Foundations (S10-100)
» More information about the SNIA credential and its requirements
The HP ASE credentials provide an excellent foundation for candidates to validate their knowledge and skills around HP StorageWorks storage solutions, including HP SAN environments, HP Storage Essentials software, and HP Enterprise Virtual Arrays. The three HP ASE credentials accepted by SNIA incorporate critical storage networking skills for anyone preparing to become recognized by SNIA as a storage networking expert with broad industry knowledge.
Likewise, candidates in the HP program who want to attain any of the HP storage credentials will find it beneficial to use SNIA certifications as a valid learning/training element in preparation for the HP certification exams. At this time, however, SNIA credentials are not on the certification path for any HP storage credentials.

Announcing new training and assessment exams for HP Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO2) |
The HP Certified Professional Program announces the immediate availability of new training courses and new exams covering the features of HP Integrated Lights-Out 2 (iLO2), which provides secure remote management capabilities for HP ProLiant servers. With iLO2, you can perform basic system maintenance tasks remotely as if you were at the server using its console (keyboard, mouse and monitor), power button or removable storage.
The first course is free web-based training (WBT) that teaches you about the features and advanced capabilities of the newly released iLO2 product. This course was designed to help sales people get up to speed quickly; however, anyone with an interest in iLO2 can take the course to gain a better understanding of the product.
WBT course 33073 HP ProLiant Lights-Out Management is available online at http://h20181.www2.hp.com/plmcontent/NACSC/IndustryStandardServers/33073_032907/ilowbt/default.htm
To validate your knowledge of iLO2 after you take the WBT, you can take a free self-assessment exam. While this exam is not a requirement toward any HP credential, it can help you test your own level of understanding of the new information. The assessment exam is HP3-043, and you can register to take it via http://ibt.prometric.com/hponline-americas.
