HP Photosmart Essential is a free computer software application that is only 4MB at download. It downloads in less than a minute with
broadband and 10 minutes or less with a 56K modem connection. We have minimized the number of steps it takes to get

HP Photosmart Essential software should work on any PC that meets the minimum hardware requirements and any printer.
Will this application take up a lot of space on my hard drive?
No. The whole application takes up approximately 10MB (Your printer driver may require up to 100MB
of free disk space to process large print jobs).
What versions of Windows will HP Photosmart Essential work with?
The program is compatible with Windows 98 and later, including:

Will the free software work on a Mac?
Sorry, there is no Mac support at this time. HP Photosmart Essential freeware is optimized for computers with Windows 98 and later.
My PC and printer are older. Can I still use this software?
HP Photosmart Essential will support some older
operating systems.
Because the installed program files are only around 10MB after download (only 4MB at download), it will work on slower systems
that will not support other digital photography programs.
Will I need a new photo printer to create top-quality digital photo prints?
Actually, you don't need a new photo printer at all to create beautiful
prints—although the latest photo printers do offer a lot of great extras
for photographers. If you're thinking about one, learn more about what
to look for in a photo printer. Otherwise, rest assured that even a low-cost
inkjet printer can turn out fabulous prints.
If I use HP Photosmart Share (part of the HP Photosmart Essential package) to send photos via e-mail,
do my friends also need HP photo software to view what I send them?
Your friends and family will not need any special photo software to
view the photos. And they won't have to deal with a hard-to-download attachment
or time-consuming sign-up process. Instead, recipients will simply receive an
e-mail that directs them to a secure website where they can view your photos

I have never even downloaded pictures. Will there be a big learning curve for me?
Not at all: The software is intuitive.
If I delete an image from HP Photosmart Essential, will it be permanently removed from my hard drive?
Deleting an image from HP Photosmart Essential does put the image in your recycling bin on your computer desktop.
A pop-up window will appear with this warning, which will also give you the option to cancel.
Will my digital images be safe? How can I be sure that I don't mess something up when I try to improve or edit them?
The digital images are not stored in HP Photosmart Essential; they actually exist on your PC's hard drive. For this reason,
whatever changes you make in HP Photosmart Essential should not affect the images that already exist on your computer. And
the application automatically makes a digital negative of any image you modify so you can always go back to it.
What is a "modular add-on?"
Just a fancy name for something you can add to what you already have. In this case, a modular add-on could be low-cost
online CD/DVD archiving or other free or low-cost plug-ins to enhance HP Photosmart Essential.
What is the "Update" button?
This is an auto update feature that allows you to get the latest and greatest improvements to HP Photosmart Essential freeware in a
small, quick computer download. Upgrades could be anything from improved functionality or new templates to new website links.
Is HP Photosmart Essential available for Macintosh?
HP Photosmart Essential is optimized for computers with Windows 98 and later, and is not currently available for Macintosh.
