When you purchase at the HP online ink store, you don’t even need to know your ink cartridge number if you know your easy-to-find printer model number.
Every HP ink is identified by a number. HP offers several places you can find the number of the right ink for your printer:
1) Inside your printer
Each Original HP ink cartridge has its number written clearly on the side. Any cartridges with suffixes (letters or words) that come after the cartridge number are also compatible.
2) Online
The HP online ink store makes it easy to identify the proper ink. Just look at the front of your printer for the model number, and enter it.
3) Your printer box
If you still have it, look on the outside of your printer box for recommended HP ink cartridges. Also, look for a wallet-sized card inside your printer box (included with many HP printers and All-in-Ones), which will list your printer model and recommended inks. Keep it in your wallet for quick reference while shopping.
4) Your printer manual
Look inside your printer manual for suggested HP ink cartridges.
5) Ink cartridge boxes
You’ll find a list of compatible HP printers on each Original HP ink cartridge box.
Helpful hint: Once you’ve identified the Original HP ink cartridges that are compatible with your printer, record the numbers either in your address book, phone, or somewhere you’ll always have access to them—even when you’re away from home at the office supply store!
