Introduction

A digital camera can serve as a modern day toy chest-providing your children with endless hours of creativity, inspiration, and discovery. Here are seven easy photo projects you can do with your kids, using the great pictures they shoot.

Create a photo album

Putting together a photo album is a fun and lasting way for kids to organize their memories. It's easy to do, and you and your child will enjoy looking at the results for years. Here's how:

  • Select a theme: Perhaps they'd like to photograph their pets, or document a day at the zoo. Friends and family make great subjects too.

  • Edit pictures: want to do some simple editing of the pictures, such as removing red-eye, or cropping the image? It's easy with Photosmart Essential software.

  • Print the photos using a photo printer and HP photo paper such as HP Advanced photo paper.

Make your album: The HP Activity Centre has a number of album templates you can download for free. Kids will especially enjoy the Daily photo journal, which they can use as a visual diary.

Kid-friendly calendars

Kids will enjoy keeping track of important dates when they make their own calendars—personalized with pictures they love.

It's easy to do. All kids need are digital photos, and a calendar template, such as the Birthday countdown calendar. Or, if your child is a budding Ansel Adams, she might enjoy the Black-and-white scenic calendar, to showcase dramatic landscapes.

Wear your photos

Your child's favorite photo can now be used to create his favorite t-shirt. See how an afternoon of fun can also produce unique, wearable art. This simple project from the HP Activity Centre requires Adobe Reader software, a clean T-shirt, and several sheets of 8.5" x 11" iron-on transfer paper.

There are lots of beautiful designs to choose from. Support your child's volunteer projects with a custom tee, or experiment with a vintage look.

Mixing and matching photos

What could be more fun than taking pictures? Try cutting up photos to create totally unique art and toys. Here are a few ideas:

  • Collages: Have your kids work with a variety of pictures, and choose an element that catches their eye. Maybe it's a certain colour, or a shape. Or a collage of family smiles. Let them cut the photos and paste them onto heavy paper until they've got it just right.

  • Wacky combinations: Try the Funny photo book. They'll enjoy assembling their own book, and rearranging the images.

  • Photo puzzles: Make your own puzzles out of favorite pictures. Great rainy day fun!

Photo slideshow

Your kids can ham it up with their own slideshows. Add music to bring their favorite photos to life—whether it's the highlights of summer camp or glamour shots of their best friends.

You'll need a PC with HP Photosmart Premier and WindowsXP Media Center Edition installed. HP Media center PCs are a great option. Simply select photos and music, and enjoy.

Visual family tree

Teach your kids about their ancestral history while assembling a photographic family tree.

Make your own: Shoot pictures of everyone from Grandma Edna to cousin Jimmy. Designate a wall in the play room or other creative area to construct a life size tree adorned with pictures of the relatives.

Create a genealogy scrapbook as an ongoing family project.
