Technology for Teaching
The HP Technology for Teaching grant initiative is designed to support innovative and effective uses of technology in the classroom setting. Each year HP Canada invites schools from across Canada to submit proposals. Each grant recipient receives HP wireless Tablet PC technology to enhance learning in engineering, math, science, computer science or business courses. The program has two components -- K-12 focuses on schools from kindergarten through to grade 12; and Higher Education which targets universities and colleges. K-12 grants are valued at $35,000 while Higher Ed grants are valued at $90,000. In 2007 10 grants were awarded to K-12 schools and four Higher Ed grants were awarded to universities and a community college.

Toronto Gerenal & Western Hospital Foundation The Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation
HP Canada is supporting, through The Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation, the Paul B. Helliwell Centre for Medical Education at Toronto General Hospital. The Centre is designed to provide state-of-the art methods for teaching including: access to advanced information technology; examination rooms with one-way glass to allow teachers to observe their students; and appropriate areas that house small group problem-based learning sessions – their current model for educational training of students in health professions. The grant will provide HP technology which will help students to learn and acquire skills through the recording of student/patient interactions in the examination rooms; immediate reviewing of the recording with their tutors and peers; and storage of the recordings for further review. The $100,000 donation includes both equipment and cash components.
