The HP Web Print Server Management component (also known as Print Queue Creation) allows administrators to install network printers remotely from any location that has access to the their network. It creates (installs) shared printers on the network that end users can access, giving them the ability to connect to and send print-jobs to a network-connected printer. HP Web Jetadmin has the ability to push the HP Web Print Server Management component from the HP Web Jetadmin host computer to a designated print server computer (either the host or remote computer). This will establish the communication link between the designated print server computer and an HP Jetdirect-connected printer.

When pushing the HP Web Print Server Management component between computers running the same or similar operating systems (Windows NT/2000/XP/Server2003-to-Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 or Linux-to-Linux), this Print Queue Creation component is included with the core HP Web Jetadmin install file. Additionally, HP Web Jetadmin can push the Print Queue Creation component from a Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 computer to a Unix or Linux computer or from a Linux computer to a Unix computer. However, a separate Print Queue Creation component must be downloaded and installed (as described on the previous page) in order to perform this function. Pushing the HP Web Print Server Management component from a Linux computer to a Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 computer is not supported.

The following two components are installed during Print Queue Creation creation in the Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003 environment:

  • The HP Web Print Server Manager software (installed as a service)
  • The HP Standard TCP/IP Port Monitor (installed as a print monitor within Windows NT/2000/XP/Server 2003)

During HP-UX and Solaris Print Path creation, HP Web Jetadmin will push the following two components:

  • The HP Web Print Server Manager software (installed as a daemon process)
  • The HP Jetdirect Printer Installer for Unix

For Linux Print Queue Creation, HP Web Jetadmin will push only the following component:

  • The HP Web Print Server Manager software (installed as a daemon process)

HP Web Jetadmin is the only Web-based management tool that offers Print Queue Creation on the following platforms: Windows NT, 2000, XP, and Server 2003, HP-UX, Solaris, Red Hat Linux, SuSE Linux, and Novell NetWare. Refer to the Readme file for specific, supported operating system versions.
