I. INTRODUCTION
*************************
HP Device Storage Manager is an application plug-in to
HP Web Jetadmin that provides the ability to manage fonts,
forms, and macros on supported HP printers.
This readme file contains detailed useful information regarding
HP Device Storage Manager that may not otherwise be available in
the HP Device Storage Manager online help or documentation.

II. RECENT INFORMATION
***********************************
HP Device Storage Manager v. 2.4.0025 is an update to the 2.4
version of Device Storage Manager that coincided with the 7.8 release
of HP Web Jetadmin. This update includes the following new functionality
and\or fixes:
1) Macro files can be uploaded that were previously resulting in a "Resource Type Unknown" error.
2) Added support for Unicode .tte fonts offered by HP.
3) Font and macro files can now be overwritten on a device if the file name or ID number is the same.
4) "Special" ASCII characters such as "@" or "&" in group names and ID column will no longer cause an error in Device Storage Manager.

III. INSTALLATION
**********************
Installation of the Device Storage Manager plug-in is performed
through the Product Update feature of HP Web Jetadmin.
If HP Web Jetadmin is configured to access the internet:
1) Select "Product Update" from the Navigation tree drop-down menu
in HP Web Jetadmin.
2) Click on the Device Storage Manager plug-in from the list
provided, and click "Next" to proceed with the installation.
If HP Web Jetadmin is NOT configured to access the internet:
1) Manually browse to http://www.hp.com/go/wja_components, download the "hp
device storage manager" plug-in, and save it to a desired subdirectory.
2) Select "Product Update" from the Navigation tree drop-down menu
in HP Web Jetadmin, then select "Go".
3) Select "Browse" on the lower half of the screen, navigate to the subdirectory where the plug-in was saved,
highlight it, and select "Upload" to add the plug-in to the list of available plug-ins.
4) Click on the Device Storage Manager plug-in from the list provided, and click "Next" to proceed with the installation.

IV. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The HP Device Storage Manager can be installed into HP Web Jetadmin
running under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 2003 Server.
Recommended Minimum Hardware Requirements
1 GHz processor
512 MB RAM
100 MB available disk space

operating systems and browsers.

The HP Device Storage Manager supports HP printers with
Hewlett-Packard Flash, Hard Disk or RAM Disk. Examples of HP printer models that may
include some of this functionality include:

VI. Supported Files (Fonts and Macros)

The HP Device Storage Manager supports the following file formats:
TrueType fonts
Type 1 PostScript fonts
TrueType collections
PCL bitmap Fonts
Windows bitmaps
Black and white images
PCL Macros
The HP Device Storage Manager does not support the following file formats:
Intellifonts
Compressed PCL Bitmap Fonts
Creating forms/macros:
Forms can be designed within a standard editor e.g. Microsoft Word or Lotus AmiPro. After designing a form,
select Print to File from the printer driver to convert the print job so that it can be downloaded to the printer as a macro.

VII. Q & A

1) Question: How can I upload fonts that are not located on the same machine that is running Device Storage Manager?
Answer: Map a network drive to the share on the remote machine.
All physical and network drives on the machine running
Device Storage Manager will be available for uploading
fonts and macros.
